Welcome Friends

In the United States, Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th. On that day in 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.  Four days later, on July 8, 1776, colonists gathered in Philadelphia to hear the Declaration read. Afterward, they celebrated the nation's first "Independence Day." In following years, Independence Day celebrations were held throughout the country on July 4th. It was not declared a legal holiday, however, until 1941.
