Reading chair
Pick up your favorite book and let's read!

I often have several books going at the same time.
I cannot wait until I finish one to begin another.

January 2002

The Notebook

What an emotional book. This was my first Nicholas Sparks novel. I read this book in one day.

February 2002

A Walk to Remember

A heart warming simple to read book with a touching plot.

March 2002

Welcome to the World Baby Girl

I didn't realize what a great writer Fannie Flagg was. I forgot that she wrote Fried Green Tomatoes. I laughed and cried my way through this story. Hated for it to end!

The Rescue

This is my third Nicholas Sparks novel. I've loved everyone so far!

April 2002

Ya Ya Sisterhood

The book was different than the movie. I preferred the book.

Lucky Man

I really enjoyed the memoirs of Michael J. Fox.
I would definitely recommend it.

Find Me

This was an enjoyable book as well.
I could totally hear Rosie's voice as I read.

Cancer Schmancer

A very good book. Humorous and scary all at the same time.
I'm keeping this one as a medical reference, just in case I ever have any of these symptoms.

June 2002

Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas

What a tear jerker. I expected the ending, but not all of it. WOW!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

July 2002

The Nanny Diaries

I couldn't put this book down. Excellent story from first time authors.

Life's Work

I chose this book because of the title...Life's Work... Confessions of an Unbalanced Mom...just sounded like something I needed to read.

Back When We Were Grownups

This was a good book.

August 2002

Love Greg and Lauren

Very touching and inspirational novel.

I Love You, Ronnie

Very sweet to read the love letters from Ronald Regan to Nancy. Makes me sad to think that's all she has at this time. My grandmother had Alzheimer's...not a fun experience.

September 2002

Faith That Goes the Distance

This dynamic book was written by one of the pastors at our church, Crossroads Christian Church. It takes you through the "hall of faith" found in Hebrews 11-a chapter full of people firmly anchored in God-to reveal how you can discover the Lord's transforming power. It encourages us to live far above mediocrity and experience extraordinary faith.

October 2002

Briget Jones' Diary

A funny book that was recommended by a friend of mine. You'll follow Briget through a year in her life. Briget starts each day by documenting her weight, number of alcohol units and cigarettes she's had.

Briget Jones Edge of Reason

I felt this sequel was even funnier than the first one.

The Beach House

Excellent novel about a corrupt police officer in an exclusive town. Even my husband enjoyed this book.

November 2002

Great non-fiction book about Christopher Reeves' life since his accident.
Very inspirational.

The Christmas Shoes

Such a tear jerker. Loved every word of this novel.

The Runaway Jury

John Grisham really kept me in suspense with Runaway Jury. I couldn't believe some of the figures. It may inspire someone to quit smoking.

January/February 2003

I Don't Know How She Does It

Another book that I chose because of the title. Then I saw it discussed on Oprah. Rather enjoyable novel.

March 2003

Tara Road

Tara Road is another Oprah Choice. It is about a family in Ireland.
A heartwarming story of friendship.

If Only It Were True

This book is total fantasy, but I found it delightful. The ghost of a woman appears in the closet of her former home. The man who moved in after her death is the only person who can see her and help her. It was a quick read; very enjoyable.

Leadership Rudolph W. Guiliani

Former Mayor Guiliani has such a wonderful way of leading.
Such a fantastic man. I really enjoyed this book.

Memoirs of a Geisha

Wow! This was a rather informative novel.
Amazing to think it was written by a man.

April 2003

Ten Things I Wish

It is a book about what we all go through. I thoroughly enjoyed all of her advice mixed with a splash of humor.

Loehmann's

This book is hilarious!
I highly recomend this book to anybody looking for a good laugh.

Diaries from the Carpet

I love when Steven Cojocaru is on the Today Show. The book is written just as he speaks. It is a humorous memoir of his life.

May 2003

Confessions of a Shopaholic

My husband wanted to know if I chose this book because I'm admiting that I am a shopaholic. LOL! I think I might be though...Smile!
Thank goodness I'm not as bad as Becky Bloomwood...Yikes!

Shopaholic Takes Manhatten

I enjoyed the first one so much that I couldn't wait to get the second one.
Loved it just as much as the first.

June 2003

Shopaholic Ties the Knot

I could hardly put the other two books down.
I'm disappointed that I'm finished with the series. I want Luke and Becky to have a baby or something. I want to read more about Shopahoic Becky Bloomwood.

July 2003

The Devil Wears Prada

I guess I'm on a trend of reading about people with expensive taste. Miranda is really a demanding boss though. I think Andrea made the right decision in the end.

The Secret Life of Bees

Great book. What a tear jerker!

Leap of Faith

This is the first Danielle Steel book that I've ever read. I loved every page of it! The story of one womans triumph over several kinds of adversity. Marie-Ange turns 21 and she learns that her penny-pinching aunt has hidden the fact that her parents left millions of dollars in trust. A whirlwind marriage and two children follow, but Marie-Ange soon learns that her husband is not the man she thinks he is. I won't tell you anymore.

The Guardian

I couldn't put this one down. Excellent novel.

A Lesson Before Dying

This was an old Oprah Book Club selection.
I read this one in one day. Great book!

To the Nines

Very interesting novel. Quite a funny mystery.

August/September 2003

Leap of Faith

I couldn't wait to start this nonfiction book. Queen Noor has led a very interesting life. She is a very remarkable and strong woman.

October 2003

Five People You Meet in Heaven

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was another quick read. I appreciate that this author made me think about the people I come in contact with every single day. His first novel Tuesdays With Morrie was absolutely phenominal. In my opinion, this one is another winner. You have to experience this wonderful author.

November 2003

The Looking Glass

I read this book a number of years ago, but saw it on the shelf and decided to reread it. I still enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

The DaVinci Code

At Home in Mitford

My aunts, Joy and Evelyn, just recommended this book/series to me. They both have loved all of the books that Jan Karon has written.
It's a nice story.

Wicked

A friend recommend this novel and its sequel to me.
I'll never watch the Wizard of Oz in the same light again. This book begins before Glenda and the Wicked Witch of the West were born. It continues through their lives and discusses the politics of Oz. Dorothy, Toto, and the three friends are all incorporated into the novel. Great book, though definitely not for children.

December 2003

The Christmas Blessing

This is a sequel. I really loved the first one, The Christmas Shoes.
I feel this is a must read. It was fabulous!

The Christmas Train

A friend let me borrow this book. It was excellent.
I want to go for a train ride.

January 2004

Nights of Rodanthe

Before Women Had Wings

This poignant story reminded me that life is hard but full of wonderful things and wonderful people if we dare to open our hearts to them. Excellent book.

Lovely Bones

I picked this book up at Barnes and Noble three times and replaced it back on the shelf. Very interesting storyline.

March 2004

The Wedding

Oh, my...what a GREAT book! I devoured every word. I did predict the ending, but enjoyed "seeing" it happen. Another fabulous Nicholas Sparks novel.

Copper Beach

I decided to read another Maeve Binchy novel, must be my March author, since they're set in Ireland. This book has an interesting format that appealed to me; one chapter per character going into their life in detail. Everyone is intertwined in everyone else's life and each chapter is like solving a bit of mystery about that person. This is a well-written, fast read, perfect for vacations.

Glass Lake

So far this seems to be a classic Binchy novel. The characters are easy to get involved with.

Pleasure of My Company

This was not my most favorite book. It was about Daniel Pecan Cambridge, a very neurotic man, who can't leave his Santa Monica apartment for fear of seeing a gas station attendant wearing a blue hat. Daniel also fears curbs and MANY other things. It was humerous, but almost in a sad way.

A Bend in the Road

We enjoyed this novel as we traveled up north. It was one of the few Nicholas Sparks books I hadn't read. My husband and I both enjoyed it.

April 2004

Scarlet Feather

Yet another Maeve Binchy novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A Year by the Sea

Sam's Letters to Jennifer

I bought this book the day it came out. It was very good, though I didn't feel it was as good as Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.

The Botox Diaries

I completed this novel during my week on the beach. It was entertaining and light reading.

House Husband

I picked up this book because of the title, since my husband is a "house husband". This book was entertaining and full of great sounding recipes.

August 2004

Second Assistant

This book was similar to The Devil Wears Prada mixed with a few others that I've read. It was good.

September 2004

October 2004

When Bad Things Happen to Good People

My Mom's best friend sent me this book after she heard about my friend, Linda. It was truly great! A must read, if you've ever felt like this.

Shopaholic and Sister

I was so surprised when I accidently found this on the shelf. I wasn't aware that a new part of the saga was being released. Another great chapter in Becky Brandon's (Bloomwood's) life. Predictable, but enjoyable.
I can't wait for the next book, which looks like there will be a new member of the family.

November 2004

Family First

August 2005

Redeeming Love

My friend recommended this book to me. I found it in the Religious Fiction section. I just started reading it a day ago and can't wait to turn the page to see what happens to poor Sarah/Angel. Nobody should have to live such a sad life. Wonderfully written novel! I'll be looking for more novels from this author, Francine Rivers.

Undomestic Goddess

I found this new Sophie Kinsella novel. I just love her writing...it's so light. Though I've found this to be a page turner. I've read almost half the book today on the way home from the river. Check this one out. Her main character had a brain in this book.

September 2005

Why Men Have Nipples

Heard this book discussed on The Today Show and was intrigued. My husband even enjoyed reading parts of it.

October 2005

A Million Little Pieces

I heard this book mentioned on Oprah and ran to Costco to get it that evening. One of the greatest books I've ever read. It grabs you from the first page. It is a raw, honest, brave, intense look at addiction and recovery. It is truly amazing that James is still alive. I've had three people ask to read it as soon as I'm done.

November 2005

The Sunflower

I love Richard Paul Evan's books. The Sunflower was wonderful. I enjoyed my vicarious experience in Peru.
