"If you are a female and born in the United States of America, you are one of the luckiest women in the world." —Oprah

We truly are very lucky. While watching an Oprah Winfrey Show, I was so deeply saddened and jerked into the reality that not everyone lives as I do. I know there's poverty and hunger, but I truly did not understand about what the women in Afghanistan and Africa must endure. I can not image my two young children having to be sold to pay for my debt. The pain that children are having to endure in other countries is just appalling to me. I spent the hour watching Oprah with tears rolling down my face. I know that I can make a financial donation to many of these causes to help fight for the rights of women. Then I got the idea to dedicate a page on my website to the cause as well. I thought if other people, who aren't aware of these dreadful things, view this page and feel the same shock, perhaps they'll make donations as well. I do not mean to offend anyone. So, please click on the back button, and do not scroll down beyond the wreath, if you do not want to hear about this. Thanks for your time. Terri

The Shocking Truth
In some countries, seeking a divorce is considered a crime that can warrant death.
In Africa and the Middle East, Female Genital Mutilation still continues — endured by an estimated 130 million women.
Last year, an estimated 5,000 girls were put to death because they were victims of rape.
Two million girls younger than 15 became sex slaves — forced into prostitution.

Below you will find several organizations that are helping to end the suffering of women all over the world.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against girls and women. V-Day is a vision of human life where girls and women live free, safe, equal and with dignity. It is a spirit affirming that life should be lived, creating and thriving, rather than surviving victimization and recovering from atrocities.

The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) is a courageous group of women who are risking their lives to expose the atrocities that Afghani women face every day.

The Heifer Project helps families lift themselves out of poverty permanently. Cows, pigs, sheep, goats and baby chicks are bought for families in need, as one small way to prevent young girls from being sold into prostitution.

Women for Women
Women for Women International is dedicated to building a world that ensures equality and justice for all. Women for Women International's definition of justice includes economic, political, and social justices that has gender equality at its core. Women for Women International envisions a world where no woman is abused, poor, illiterate or marginalized; where women have full and equal participation in processes that ensure their health, well-being, and economic independence; and where women have the freedom to define their lives, future and reach their full potential.

In many places in our world, children suffer and die or live disfigured lives because medical care that could help is unavailable to them. Changing this situation is the goal of Healing the Children. We envision a world where every child has access to medical care, and all our work is aimed at achieving our goal . . . one child at a time.
